FAQs

Q: What is the primary use case for the CAB-Q-S-1M breakout cable?
A: This cable is used to break out a single 40G QSFP+ port into four separate 10G SFP+ connections, enabling flexible connectivity between 40G and 10G networking equipment within data centers, ideal for server-to-switch or top-of-rack deployments.

Q: Is this cable compatible with non-Arista equipment?
A: While designed and coded for Arista switches, passive DAC cables like this one are typically compatible with other vendors' equipment that support standard QSFP+ and SFP+ MSA specifications, though compatibility should be verified with the specific devices.

Q: What is the maximum distance supported by this passive cable?
A: As a passive direct attach copper cable, the CAB-Q-S-1M is designed for short-reach connections up to 1 meter. For longer distances, active copper or fiber optic solutions would be required.

Q: Does this cable require any external power or configuration?
A: No, the CAB-Q-S-1M is a passive copper cable that draws minimal power from the connected ports and requires no external power supply or configuration. It is hot-swappable and plug-and-play.

Q: What applications and protocols does this cable support?
A: The cable supports 40G Ethernet, 10G Ethernet, InfiniBand QDR/DDR/SDR, and Fibre Channel protocols, with data rates ranging from 2.125 Gbps to 41.2 Gbps across all four channels.
