FAQs

Q: What is the maximum transmission distance for this cable?
A: The CAB-Q-Q-100G-0-5 is designed for 0.5-meter (1.64 feet) direct attach connections between QSFP28 ports. It is ideal for intra-rack and adjacent-rack switch connections in data centers.

Q: Is this cable compatible with switches from other vendors?
A: This cable is designed for Arista switches but follows QSFP28 MSA standards. Compatible alternatives are available from third-party vendors that support multi-brand environments, though compatibility should be verified for specific switch models.

Q: What are the power consumption benefits compared to optical transceivers?
A: Passive DAC cables consume significantly less power (max 0.5W per end) compared to active optical transceivers, which can draw up to 4.5W. This reduces operating costs and heat generation in dense data center deployments.

Q: Does this cable require any special configuration on Arista switches?
A: No special configuration is required. The cable is hot-pluggable and automatically recognized by Arista QSFP28 100G ports. It provides plug-and-play connectivity for 100GBASE-CR4 Ethernet applications.

Q: Can this cable be used for InfiniBand applications?
A: Yes, the cable is compliant with InfiniBand HDR standards in addition to 100G Ethernet (100GBASE-CR4), making it suitable for both networking and high-performance computing interconnects.
