Description

This 400GBASE-CR8 passive twinax copper breakout cable connects a single 400G OSFP port (8x 50G PAM-4 lanes) to four 100G QSFP56 ports, each running 100GBASE-CR2 over 2x 50G lanes. At 3 m, it suits short in-rack and adjacent-rack links where a low-cost, passive copper connection is preferred over optics. It is a practical way to split a 400G switch port into four 100G server or switch connections.

Enquire with XS Network Tech for new or used pricing and availability.

FAQs

Q: What does this cable connect?
A: It connects one 400G OSFP port on one end to four 100G QSFP56 ports on the other end, with each QSFP56 connector using 2x 50G lanes.

Q: Is this an active or passive cable?
A: It is a passive twinax copper cable, so it contains no active signal conditioning electronics and is intended for short-reach links.

Q: What is the maximum length for this type of DAC?
A: This cable is 3 m long, which is the maximum supported length for passive copper DAC breakout cables of this type.

Q: Will it work with QSFP-DD ports?
A: No. This variant is built for OSFP on the 400G side. Arista offers separate CAB-D-4Q variants for QSFP-DD ports.

Q: What speed does each breakout leg run at?
A: Each of the four QSFP56 legs runs 100GBASE-CR2 at 100G using two 50G PAM-4 lanes.
