Description

The Arista DCS-7800R3A-36D-LC is a 36-port 400GbE QSFP-DD line card designed for modular 7800R3 Series chassis deployments in large-scale data center and cloud networks. This wirespeed module delivers up to 14.4 Tbps throughput per card and supports FlexRoute for Internet-scale routing, Accelerated sFlow, and algorithmic ACLs. Built for continuous operations with hot-swap capability, it integrates seamlessly with Arista EOS for advanced Layer 2/3 features, VXLAN, EVPN, and flexible breakout configurations.

Features

FlexRoute engine with algorithmic forwarding for Internet-scale BGP routing and full table support
- Accelerated sFlow for line-rate flow sampling and network visibility without performance impact
- Deep buffer VOQ architecture eliminates head-of-line blocking and packet loss
- Wire-speed Layer 2 switching with VLAN, STP, LACP, and MLAG support
- Advanced Layer 3 routing: OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, Segment Routing
- VXLAN network virtualization with hardware VTEP and EVPN control plane
- Algorithmic ACLs for scalable policy enforcement, QoS, and telemetry
- Multi-rate port support with independent speed configuration per port
- Hot-swappable design with redundant fabric, supervisor, and power supplies
- Integrated precision timing support (IEEE 1588 PTP)
- Arista EOS automation: Zero Touch Provisioning, CloudVision integration, REST APIs
- Support for Inband Network Telemetry (INT) and IPFIX
- Large MAC and ARP tables with flexible resource allocation
- Comprehensive QoS with weighted fair queuing, strict priority, and traffic shaping
- Industry-standard transceiver support for single-mode and multi-mode fiber optics

FAQs

Q: Which chassis models is the DCS-7800R3A-36D-LC compatible with?
A: This line card is compatible with all Arista 7800R3 Series modular chassis including the 7804R (4-slot), 7808R (8-slot), and 7816R (16-slot) systems. It interoperates with other 7800R3 and 7800R3A line cards in the same chassis.

Q: What breakout configurations are supported on the 400GbE ports?
A: Each 400GbE QSFP-DD port can be broken out to support multiple lower-speed interfaces including 4x100G, 8x50G, or 8x25G configurations, enabling flexible migration paths and mixed-speed deployments within the same line card.

Q: Does this line card support MACsec or encryption?
A: The standard DCS-7800R3A-36D-LC model does not include hardware encryption. For MACsec, IPsec, or VXLANsec support, consider the enhanced models such as DCS-7800R3A-36DM-LC which include encryption capabilities with appropriate EOS licensing.

Q: What is the maximum system capacity when fully populated?
A: In a fully populated 16-slot 7816R chassis with 36-port 400G line cards, the system can deliver up to 576 ports of 400GbE and 460 Tbps total throughput with 100% lossless forwarding across the fabric.

Q: What software features require additional licensing?
A: The line card operates with standard Arista EOS features including Layer 2/3, VXLAN, EVPN, and FlexRoute without additional licenses. Advanced encryption features (MACsec, TunnelSec) require encryption-capable hardware variants and separate EOS security licenses.
