Description

The MX-FPC2 is a Type 2 Flexible PIC Concentrator for the Juniper MX Series, designed for MX240, MX480 and MX960 routers. It takes up two DPC slots and carries up to two Type 2 PICs, forwarding their traffic across the switch fabric. It suits service provider and enterprise WAN and edge deployments that need to add PIC-based interfaces such as SONET/SDH, channelized and Ethernet PICs.

The card supports up to two Type 2 PICs and provides up to 10 Gbps of full-duplex throughput per FPC. It carries one Packet Forwarding Engine and a dedicated processor subsystem with a 1.2-GHz CPU and 1 GB of SDRAM. Maximum power draw is 190 W with PICs and optics installed, supplied from the chassis midplane. Each chassis supports a set number of FPCs: one in the MX240, three in the MX480 and six in the MX960.

The MX-FPC2 needs Junos OS 9.5 or later on the host router and an SCB-based chassis with a compatible Routing Engine. It is a legacy FPC, so it accepts Type 2 PICs such as the Channelized OC12/STM4 IQE PIC with SFP and the Channelized OC48/STM16 IQE PIC, and does not take MPC or MIC modules.

Q: Which MX routers is the MX-FPC2 compatible with?
A: It works in the MX240, MX480 and MX960. The chassis limits are one FPC in the MX240, three in the MX480 and six in the MX960. It needs an SCB-based chassis with a compatible Routing Engine.

Q: Does it need a licence or subscription?
A: No licence or subscription is documented for the FPC hardware itself. The host router must run Junos OS 9.5 or later.
